Aimee Alcarez-Cowan
1975 - 2008

April 23, 1975 - November 19, 2008

Aimee Alcarez-Cowan, Class of 1993, was called to God on November 19, 2008, after a tenacious battle against cancer. Her husband Will was by her side.  She has been faithfully accompanied by her family, the prayers of the entire Montrose community and countless friends.

It's fitting that Aimee shared her birthday with Shakespeare.   She always loved literature and the insights it offers about humanity and the meaning of life.  After Montrose, she earned her bachelor's degree in literature from Thomas More College of Liberal Arts and her master's from Tufts University.  Aimee was a beloved professor of English at Tufts University and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.  She was pursuing her doctorate in Medieval Literature.

To the Alcarez Family, thank you for sharing Aimee with us at Montrose.  She lit up our hallways with her smile and touched the hearts of our students, faculty and staff with her unfailing optimism and genuine kindness.  Aimee was our very own Anne of Green Gables, and she matured into a gifted teacher, writer and literary scholar.  Most importantly, she was a loving wife and mother, a dedicated sister and aunt, whose generosity, selflessness, and joi de vivre have left an indelible impression on all of us.

To Will and your two beautiful children, Xavier and Tilly, may you draw strength and consolation from Aimee's abiding spirit. Her love for you was too great to be bound by time and space.  I am confident she remains very close to each of you.

With all of our love,
Karen E. Bohlin
Aimee's former English teacher and Head of School

Nina Kilroy, '01
1982 - 2008

November 19, 1982 - November 11, 2008

Nina Kilroy, Class of 2001, was called to heaven on November 11, 2008 after a long and courageous fight with cancer.  Nina was enormously grateful to her family, who never left her side.  I was struck  by her wonderful perspective those last weeks before she passed away.  She was grateful and light-hearted.  She seemed to take each day as a gift, even though it was difficult.  It gave her family and friends great joy to be with her.  She exemplified grace under pressure.

Throughout her high school years at Montrose she developed a passion for French and science and was both academically focused and fun loving. Nina Kilroy loved animals and nature, and everyone learned from her sensitivity and great heart.  Early on, her teachers saw her as a diamond in the rough.  Now her brilliance shines for all of us.

She graduated from Johnson and Wales in 2005 and worked at the Boston Harbor Hotel.  She lived her short life to the full—with quiet strength, kindness and laughter.

To Mr. and Mrs. Kilroy and Mark, Nina cherished your love for her.  As Father Dick reminded us, her life has not ended, it has simply changed.   She will remain by your side always.  Please know that we will continue to hold her memory and your family in our hearts and prayers.

With all of our love,
Karen E. Bohlin
Head of School

February 20, 1976 - February 20, 2008

Sonia (Daly) Belcher '94, beloved wife, mother, Montrose alumna, former Montrose trustee and dear friend died suddenly on February 20, 2008.  Sonia’s family has created a beautiful website in memory of her: www.soniabelcher.com.

The Development and Alumnae Office serves the Montrose community of alumnae, parents and friends. Its mission is to spread the word about Montrose and keep graduates up to date with Montrose news. Twice a year the office publishes the Montrose Memos, a newsletter chock-full of alumnae and faculty profiles, interviews with the board, detailed school updates, and a message from the head. Included in our fall issue is the annual fund report. This report details the critical generosity Montrose receives from its supporters.

Montrose alumnae are a vital part of the Montrose story and legacy. All alumnae are invited to reconnect with faculty, friends and each other through a variety of special events and programs. We value all of our alumnae and encourage their participation and support in a variety of ways:

* Class Correspondent
* Class Agent
* Career Day
* ReunionsClass Correspondent

Alumnae are invited to serve as class correspondents for their class as a way to stay connected with all of the happenings at Montrose. In this role, each class correspondent informs and engages her classmates more actively in the programs and events sponsored by the school.

Class Agent

Alumnae can also serve an important role in the Montrose Annual Fund as class agents. In this role, alumnae encourage fellow classmates via letters, phone, e-mail and personal contact to support the school's annual fund.

Career Day
Alumnae are invited to return to school each year to participate in Career Day. During the program, alumnae tell their stories and offer professional advice to Montrose students.

Reunions
Classes celebrating a special anniversary year are invited to help plan, organize and promote a class reunion as a way to reconnect with Montrose classmates, teachers and friends. If you are interested in helping plan your class reunion, please contact Jennifer Malloy at 508.359.2423 or by email at jmalloy@montroseschool.org

Alumnae Updates

Elizabeth Campbell '00 is running with Team in Training - a running, cycling, hiking, and triathalon group with a cause!

As a division of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Team in Training (TNT) works to raise money to help individuals fighting blood cancers. The money funds research and clinical trials, and many life-saving drugs have been developed in recent years. In addition, the group serves as a source of inspiration and hope to patients. Many cancer survivors run with the group and believe that the goal of running and competing gives them something to look forward to once their treatment is over.

Liz is happy to have found such a fun way to stay fit and active as an adult. Her training highlights thursfar include running over both the George Washington and Brooklyn Bridges and running 19 miles around Manhattan. On May 4th, she will run the full 26.2 mile marathon in Long Branch, New Jersey.

Those interested in donating to this important cause, may visit Liz's webpage:

We are the proud parents of eight children, Bridget (16), Benjamin (14), Rebecca (12), Peter (10), Patrick (7), David (5), Abigail (3), and baby William (6 months). Greg, the children, and I are very active in our parish and participate in school board, parish dinner, CYO, and many school functions throughout the year. I am a La Leche League leader, participant in FAMILIA, and a Birthline volunteer. I have really enjoyed the updates on Montrose’s changes. The school has come a long way since my fellow “pioneers” and I roamed the halls. It is great to see the dream of the founding fathers and mothers continuing into the next century.”

Tricia Plasko Campbell writes, “I was thrilled to get the opportunity to stop by the new school in Medfield over the holidays. I currently live in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Fr. Dick called me at home in Maine (how amazing is it that he still remembers my birthday!?) and encouraged me to visit the new site. What a fabulous facility. I felt so proud as I toured the work in progress. I felt excited and energized by the growth and changes that “my” school has gone through! Congratulations to the entire Montrose community! When I left Montrose I went on to receive my BA in Communications from Colby Sawyer and later, my MA Ed. from Lesley University. I am currently working in a middle school in the Spanish Education Department. I was married in September of 1999 (by Fr. Dick, at St. Catherine’s in Norwood) and in July 2005 was blessed by the birth of my daughter Grace Kathleen Campbell — a future Montrose girl! I hope to move home to Massachusetts in the next few years. My recent visit has made me hope to reconnect with the school that did so much for me!”

I spend my days raising my son, Robbie who will turn three in August, and my daughter, Kristina, who just turned one in May (see pictures). I will soon celebrate six years with my company. After my second child was born, I reduced my work-week schedule to three days per week. I now spend the majority of that time working out of my home in Westwood so that I can spend more time with my children. My husband Rob and I will celebrate our sixth wedding anniversary in September.”

Michelle Walsh Domey writes, “In May I completed Basic Training and was inducted into The National Lancers, the Mounted Cavalry unit of the Massachusetts Organized Militia. We have weekly drills and participate in ceremonial activities throughout the state.
