ADMISSIONS: International Applicants

Criteria for Admissions
Applicant must be in high academic standing and must have at least a basic familiarity with the English language. All classes are conducted in English.

The entire Montrose international student application should be completed and sent to Montrose, together with the student's school records for the current year and two preceding years, and the $100.00 application fee. The academic and non-academic recommendations should be sent by the corresponding parties in the envelopes provided. When all the above forms have been received, the Admissions Committee will schedule a phone interview with the applicant. Once complete, the admissions committee makes their decision on admission.

International students are graded on the same standards as American students with the exception of an optional pass/fail grade (at the discretion of the teacher) for the first quarter. They receive letter grades for the remaining three grading periods. Students who receive an F, a D, or a No Pass may be placed on academic probation at the discretion of the Dean of Studies.

If a student is failing the majority of her courses at the end of the year, it is not likely that Montrose will award credit for the year.

Housing
In keeping with the philosophy of the school, our international students are placed with Montrose families. Students and host families are matched by the Director of Admissions to assure a positive experience for both. It is good for international applicants to have in mind that in the typical American household the entire family shares in the responsibilities for the home. Students should be eager to participate in family activities and help with small jobs. Living with an American family provides international students with the wonderful opportunity both to improve their understanding of the English language and also to understand and enjoy American culture and way of life. American families appreciate learning about international customs as well.

Enrollment and Immigration Forms

Montrose School will send out an Enrollment Agreement and an I-20 Form to students once they have been accepted and matched with a host family. No student will be enrolled prior to being assigned a host family. These enrollment documents are typically sent in May or June.
