May 15, 2007 It has been a wonderful spring semester here at Montrose in Medfield. The students have showcased their learning in countless ways from math league, Mathericks and middle school science fairs to the Meeting of the Minds, a philosophy presentation by our seniors. The seventh and eighth grades performed Shakespeare’s Mid Summer Night’s Dream and Aristophanes’ The Clouds. The lacrosse teams have played an impressive season, and our chorale performers and speech team wowed audiences at the spring concert and first annual speech night. Our seniors have just completed their last day of classes and will be embarking on their senior service projects next week. I wanted to take this opportunity to congratulate them on their acceptances to over 90 outstanding colleges. Their offers for admission came with significant honors and scholarships, all testimony to their hard work and achievement. Next fall the Class of 2007 will matriculate at the following universities: Boston University, Franciscan University, George Mason University, Harvard University, Houghton College, MIT, Muhlenberg College, St. Anselm College, St. Joseph’s University (PA), Skidmore College, Springfield College, Tulane University, University of Chicago, University of Mary Washington, U Mass/Amherst, U Mass/Dartmouth Commonwealth College, University of New Hampshire, University of Notre Dame and Villanova University. We are looking forward to our first commencement exercises
in Medfield on Sunday, June 3, 2007, and we are honored to have Sheila
C. Cavanaugh, Senior Vice President of Fidelity Investments, as our graduation
speaker. Before joining Fidelity, Ms. Cavanaugh was a management consultant
with Coopers & Lybrand LLP, where she consulted globally to Fortune
500 companies on issues of competition and strategy. Ms. Cavanaugh began
her career in the financial services industry at The Chase Manhattan Bank
and has held a variety of international positions with banks in Japan,
Switzerland and the former Soviet Union. She spent a sabbatical year teaching
English with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees at a Vietnamese
refugee camp in Southeast Asia in 1987-88. Ms. Cavanaugh earned her undergraduate
degree in Economics from the College of the Holy Cross and an MBA from
Yale University. She is the proud mother of three children and lives in
Belmont. Ms. Cavanaugh is an inspiring person and a highly sought-after
speaker. |
