Senior Service
Alternative Spring Break

Service is an integral part of the Montrose culture. From the smallest acts of consideration to generous sacrifices of self, an ethic of service is expected at Montrose, not required. Students have a range of opportunities to serve both within and beyond Montrose. From cleaning up the lunchroom and planting flowers on campus to supporting school children in Haiti and visiting seniors at the local nursing home, students are invited to lend a hand and make a difference daily.

Spirit of Service (SOS) is an organization that provides opportunities for students, parents, faculty and staff to serve in the wider community. SOS seeks to foster a consciousness of others and their needs at any given moment.

“Miss O’Donovan picked me up and placed a potted daffodil in my hands. I was going to give some lonely woman the plant as a gift. Immediately, “why me” sprung up inside. I hated the smell of nursing homes and it was my Saturday by the way. But something was inscribed on my being watching Miss O’Donovan care for this little old lady she had never met. Her love for humanity convicted me and inspired me to be someone who cared more for others than for myself regardless of my lack of comfort. Throughout high school, she continued to encourage me to work at soup kitchens and to avail myself of opportunities to serve.”
