Characteristics of Professional Excellence

To forward the noble enterprise of shaping the lives and aspirations of our students by educating young women to become leaders animated by faith, character and vision, we the faculty of Montrose School commit ourselves to the following principles:
  1. To model professional excellence through diligence, organization, communication, and consistency in putting forth our best effort in all educational tasks to promote effective learning and cultivate the character development of our students.
  2. To demonstrate a commitment to on-going professional development by integrating knowledge of effective, research-based pedagogy into our disciplines and our teaching, and by sharing this knowledge with each other in order to develop a professional learning community.
  3. To inspire in our students a passion for our content areas so that they may engage in active, lifelong learning.
  4. To maintain high academic standards and foster each student’s progress toward achieving her intellectual potential.
  5. To provide students with curriculum, instruction, assessment and the necessary support to meet rigorous achievement standards.
  6. To provide opportunities for students to cultivate good judgment, evaluate problems and work with fortitude, individually and with others, toward responsible and creative solutions.
  7. To structure creative opportunities for students to demonstrate mastery of content and skills through writing, speaking, and performances that foster proficiency and allow learners to bring knowledge to bear in new situations.
  8. To promote development of character, leadership and service in each student by committing to our own personal growth in these same areas.
  9. To recognize and support parents as the primary educators of their children through effective communication and personal contact in order to support and promote the family atmosphere that characterizes Montrose School.
  10. To demonstrate compassion for students, recognizing social, emotional and physical well-being as corollary to academic progress and indispensable to the healthy and balanced development of our students through adolescence and into early adulthood.
