A “Tradition” of Theater Excellence

This year’s All School Musical thrills three full houses with Fiddler on the Roof.
This year’s All School Musical thrilled three full houses with the Broadway classic, Fiddler on the Roof.

Set in early 1900s Russia, Fiddler on the Roof presents the story of poor dairyman Tevye (
Nora Sullivan ’16), his wife Golde (Megan Bellavance ’16) and their five daughters (Rachel Solomon ’16, Molly Cahill ’16, Isabelle Frank ’19, Isabella Russo ’21 and Bella Flores ’22). As the girls come of age, the town Matchmaker, Yente (Saiorse Healy ’16) seeks to find husbands for them, such as the town butcher (Abby McAvoy ’19). But unfortunately for the traditional Tevye, his daughters have other plans. The three oldest girls choose their own husbands (Vicki Driscoll ’19, Olivia Hastie ’18 and Catherine Melley ’16), forcing change upon their father.

With mainstay musical numbers such as “Tradition”, “Matchmaker” and “Sunrise, Sunset”, Fiddler on the Roof was enthusiastically received by the Montrose audiences.

Read student reporter Jensen Radner ’17’s review of Fiddler on the Roof for The Looking Glass.

The show featured new spotlights and a new lighting board, purchased with proceeds from this year’s Auction Raise the Paddle initiative to outfit the Arts & Athletics Center. The spotlights, run by Chengyudan “Anna” Liu ’17 and Julia Convery ’19, increased the overall quality of a top-notch show, while the new lighting board made Lighting Supervisor Meagan Albertson ’16’s job much more enjoyable. “What a difference!” said Meagan on opening night.

Backdrop designs by Abby McAvoy ’19 were painted by Art Club members Eleanor Barry ’19, Addison Harrison ’19, Kiran Kottapalli ’18, Mackenzie Mattson ’19, Abby McAvoy ’19, Ayana Murphy ’19 and Cailey Noonan ’19 bringing audiences to the village of Anatevka in Russia.

Congratulations to Mrs. Holly Sullivan and her entire cast and crew on a stellar production.
