AP Success

A record high 90% of Montrose AP students are AP Scholars, outperforming state and global averages.
A record high 90% of Montrose students who took Advanced Placement tests earned top scores of 3, 4 or 5, outperforming state and global averages.

Only 70% of students in Massachusetts, and 60% of students worldwide, taking the exams earned one of these top scores in the college-level classes.
According to the College Board, “‘success’ on an AP exam is defined as an exam score of 3 or higher, which represents the score point that research finds predictive of college success and college graduation.”

Particularly outstanding were the performances by Montrose seniors on English Language and Composition, in which 100% of students scored a 4 or 5. Similarly, 100% of juniors taking English Literature and Composition scored a 4 or 5. In an impressive debut, 78% of sophomores taking U.S. History, their first AP test, scored a 4 or 5.

Thirteen Montrose students were named AP Scholars by the College Board. This designation by College Board aims “to recognize high school students who have demonstrated college-level achievement through AP courses and exams,” the College Board states.

A record five seniors earned the highest honor of AP Scholar with Distinction. Brigid Bane ‘16, Molly Cahill ‘16, Emma Frank ‘16, Abigail Gillis ‘16 and Katie Sidhu ‘16 each scored 3 or higher on at least five AP exams and averaged a score of at least 3.5. Sylvia Conte ‘16 and MaryGrace King ‘16 were named as AP Scholars with Honor, scoring 3 or higher on at least four AP exams and averaging a score of at least 3.25.
