Cross Country Wins Championship

The Mavericks sprint to first place in the NEPSTA Division IV championships by a wide margin.

Montrose School’s cross country team secured the 2016 NEPSTA Division IV Cross Country Championships by a large margin: 36 points to second place Dexter-Southfield’s 101 points.

More than one hundred runners from fourteen schools competed in the championship race. Mary Dyke ‘20 and Hannah Marino ‘18 finished 6th and 7th out of 115 runners, with Ciara Young ‘18, Kasey Corra ‘22 and Francesca Dyke ‘18 close behind, all finishing among the top twenty runners. Tess Farr ‘22 and Emily Bowman ‘19 also ran strong races.

Mary, Hannah, Ciara, Kasey and Francesca, as top twenty finishers, qualified to compete at the NEPSTA All-Stars race hosted by St. Mark’s School, where the top twenty runners from all four NEPSTA divisions faced off against one another in an individually scored race.

Montrose’s JV team also won the JV race, with a score of 25 points to second place Berwick Academy’s 47 points. Montrose runners seized the top three finishes: 6th grade runner Anna Dyke ‘23 won the race, followed by Caroline Piorkowski ‘22 and Jenna McCarthy ‘19.

Responding to the team’s success, Coach Kate Hill explained, “The team’s success in both the Varsity and JV races have demonstrated how important depth of talent is to a cross country team. No runner is the star who carries the team to victory. These girls have worked incredibly hard this season, and their success is well earned.”
