The Sun'll Come Out Tomorrow

The Middle School Players inaugurate A&A with delightful Annie Jr.
The Montrose Middle School Players inaugurated the theater of the new Arts & Athletis Center, as they delighted audiences with two spirited performances of Annie Jr. The shows featured lively acting, energetic singing and dancing, impressive sets and costumes and hundreds of enthusiastic spectators for each show.

In Annie Jr., Annie (Katie Hogan ‘20) and her fellow orphans (Katherine Flynn ‘21, Maddie Marcucci ‘19, Anna Bachiochi ‘20, Amanda Belger ‘21, Hannah Fay ‘19 and Rebecca Gillis ‘19) took audiences back to a New York City orphanage in 1933. The orphans dream of having parents to care for them, rather than the cruel Miss Hannigan (Isabelle Frank ‘19). Annie has the chance to visit with millionaire Oliver Warbucks (Abby McAvoy ‘19) and his assistant, Grace Farrell (Nora Cahill ‘19), but Miss Hannigan, her brother Rooster (Emma Dunnington ‘19) and Lily St. Regis (Maria Schickel ‘20) scheme to ruin Annie’s newfound happiness. All ends well, with a Christmas morning visit from the President (Rebecca Gillis ‘19) and even Annie’s stray dog, Sandy (Juliana Capasso ‘21).

With crowd-pleasing numbers such as “It’s the Hard Knock Life,” “Easy Street” and “Tomorrow,” the Middle School Players displayed impressive singing and dancing. The sets, costumes and hairstyles effectively invoked the Depression-era setting.

Congratulations to Director Holly Sullivan, Music Director Michelle French, Stage Manager Nora Sullivan ‘16, Scenic Designer Christina Marge and the cast and crew of Annie Jr. for an enchanting show.
