Both local newspapers showcase student writing by several Montrosians.
On Sunday, February 22, the Boston
Herald featured an article by
Monica Stack '15. Monica won the

Four Montrose students submitted articles for this competition, which focuses on news topics of interest to Boston readers while capitalizing on their connection to high school and college students. All four Montrose student pieces were selected for publication by the
Herald, two for the print edition and two for online.
Monica's winning article discussed President Obama's community college initiative. In April, the
Herald published an article by
Katrin O'Grady '15, an expose on the tensions surrounding shared land between a Weston-area golf course and the only competitive, snow-making cross-country ski track in the region.

Rylee Booth '16 and
Margaret Sparicio '16 were published on the
Herald's educational blog, and an additional article by Rylee will be published in the print edition of an upcoming Sunday
Herald.
In addition,
Laasya Thatavarthy ‘20 penned a limerick for Mrs. Jill Kerr's Literature class which was printed in the Boston
Globe. The Boston
Globe Foundation invited students from across New England to submit original verses for the Foundation’s News in Education Limerick Contest. Laasya was one of only six students in grades 7-12 whose limerick was selected for publication in the
Globe.

Montrose students are called to greatness as thinkers, scholars and citizens of the world. "At Montrose, teachers encourage students to engage the world," said English teacher Mrs. Barbara Whitlock. "Opportunities for outside publication provide tangible opportunities to promote responsible citizenship and to refine writing skills." The students published in the
Herald are enrolled in an elective journalism course, taught by Mrs. Whitlock, in which they conduct interviews and research while writing frequent articles for
The Looking Glass' online and print editions.
With opportunities like the journalism class, the Boston Herald Student Voices competitions and the Globe Foundation Limerick Contest, Montrosians practice how to be young women of faith, character and vision who are called to engage the world in and beyond Montrose.
