Sounds of Spring

Beautiful music fills the A&A in the annual Spring Concert.
The Arts & Athletics Center overflowed with family, friends and classmates for the annual Spring Concert. Montrose's choral, a cappella and instrumental groups provided an evening of beautiful music.

The Middle School Tone Chimes opened the evening. All 6th grade students, the Tone Chimers demonstrated notable growth as perfomers in their rendition of Beethoven's Ode to Joy. They were followed by the Middle School Chorus, in white tops and colorful spring skirs. Led by Mrs. Holly Sullivan, the impressive middle school repertoire included a lively Music! Music! by Frederick Silver, Edelweiss by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein and Together Wherever We Go from the musical Gypsy, complete with dance moves. The 8th grade students performed a haunting rendition of Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen to close.

The Upper School Handbell Choir followed, including seniors Laura Bergemann '15 and Shubo Yan '15. Directed by Mrs. Karen Demirjian, the eleven girls expertly rang out a series of seven short musical themes from The Lord of the Rings.

In their signature black dresses, the Upper School Chorus took the stage next. The 11th and 12th grade students, including seniors Maddie Crump '15 and Shubo Yan '15, opened with a lovely version of Felix Mendelssohn's Lift Thine Eyes. Joined by 9th and 10th grade singers, the Chorus gave an outstanding performance of Poor Man Lazarus by Jester Hairston, featuring multiple parts. They closed with a reprise of their Auction favorite, Sentimental Journey, featuring Montrose-inspired lyrics.

The Treblemakers, including seniors Sarah Baker '15, Maddie Crump '15, Madeline Reilly '15 and Shubo Yan '15, perfomed a melodic When You Wish Upon a Star. They then brought down the house with an energetic medley of songs from Pitch Perfect, to cheers from their classmates in the balcony.

Acting Head of School Katherine Ginnetty congratulated all the performers, and called the graduating seniors forward for an extra round of applause at their final Spring Concert. "This concert is a wonderful way to conclude another year of learning, growth and self-discovery for every student here at Montrose," she said.
