Spring Sports Success

Mavericks finish the spring season with strong showings in lacrosse, softball and golf.
The Mavericks are finishing their spring season with strong showings in lacrosse, softball and golf.

The Montrose Varsity Lacrosse team completed an outstanding season under the leadership of team captains and 2014 Academic All-Americans, Sarah Morrill '15 and Elle Schirripa '15. The Mavericks continued their dominance in the league. Both Elle and Michaela Fleming ‘16 were named NEPSAC All-Stars, Michaela for the third year in a row.

The JV Lacrosse team boasted 27 girls and played a full season, as team members worked on skills and learned to play as a team. “It is exciting to see so much young potential,” said coach Bridget Schirripa '10.

Varsity Softball fielded a young team, with captains Monica Stack '15, Emily Melville ‘15 and Jessica Pink '15 showing strong leadership by welcoming and supporting the younger players. “The softball team didn’t get on to the fields till very late, due to the snow, but played well despite their late start,” said Ms. Schirripa.

Montrose students enjoyed a new golf opportunity in the spring, as the school joined the Girls' Independent Golf League. “The girls have been so impressive at driving events and out on the course, drawing interest from college coaches,” said Athletic Director Jodi Blackburn. At a GIGL event in North Attleboro with over 100 girls present, Maria Oliva '16 led the team on the driving range and Montrose placed second overall.
