Student Selected for News Program

Monica Stack '15 is one of only sixteen students chosen for the expenses-paid Boston Globe program.
Monica Stack ‘15 recently completed a prestigious summer journalism program at the Boston Globe. Until recently the co-editor of Montrose School's online newspaper, The Looking Glass, Monica spent a week in June at the New England High School Journalism Collaborative program.

Monica was one of only sixteen students selected for the program at the Globe, from an original pool of students from all over New England. “Monica’s experience with the school newspaper, as well as her articles for a competition in the Boston Herald, made her an excellent choice for the program,” said Leah Lamson, New England High School Journalism Collaborative newspaper manager. “In addition, her interest in photojournalism was an attractive dimension in her desire to become a journalist in the future.”

Founded in 1987, the Collaborative has introduced hundreds of high school students to the field of journalism through workshops and programs that allow students to work directly with professional reporters, photographers and editors from area newspapers.

During the week-long, all-expenses paid program, funded in part by Dow Jones Newspaper Fund and Regis College, and in partnership with the Boston Globe and WriteBoston, Monica and her fellow participants worked together to create a laboratory newspaper. The participants spent a week living at  Regis College while working on stories throughout greater Boston.
