STEAM

STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) at Montrose is designed to build strengths in each student not only in the course material, but also in logical inquiry and investigation; reflection about the origins and meaning of human life; appreciation for the role of art in the enlightened life and mind; and refinement and exploration of conjectures on the basis of evidence and proof techniques. All disciplines assist students in becoming flexible and resourceful problem solvers.

Humanities

The Humanities Department at Montrose School aims to impart a certain body of factual and conceptual knowledge that is valuable in itself and as a background to understanding the present; to nurture in students a respect for the past; to investigate history through the humanities, particularly art, philosophy and literature, as a means to understanding the unity of human endeavor; to strengthen character through the study of and reflection on the lives and deeds of historical figures; to cultivate in students clear expression, confident oral and written communication skills, self-reflection and creativity in writing, strong character, and an appreciation for, and love of, literature; and to better understand the intellectual, moral and spiritual foundations of the classical Western civilization.
