Basketball champs again

The Mavericks best rival Brimmer with a nail-biting win to take the IGC championship for the second year in a row.
Montrose was the top seed heading into the championship, but had split games with Brimmer during the regular season, with each team losing one and winning one.

In the championship match, Montrose trailed throughout the championship game, taking the lead for the first time in the final minute. Sophie Cronin '23 drove to the basket with 30 seconds left and put the Mavericks up by 1 point. Hers ended up being the game-winning basket.

For the second year in a row, the varsity basketball team clinched the Division 1 Independent Girls Conference title and received a bid to the New England Class D Tournament.

The Mavs boasted three IGC league all-stars, Devyn Gianino '20, Colleen Casey '22 and Sophie Cronin '23, and two NEPSAC all-stars, Sophie Kocho '20 and Sophie Cronin '23. Colleen Casey '22 was named IGC League MVP.

"It was one of the most intense games I have ever coached," said Athletic Director and coach Julie (Ruggieri) Boynton. "The fans and the atmosphere in the gym were electric. We were so proud of the girls for fighting until the very end and never giving up."
