College Guidance Goes Virtual

The Montrose counselors keep parents of juniors up to date on the shifting college admissions landscape.
Director of College Guidance Mary Foley and College Guidance Counselor Karen Peters met with several dozen parents via Zoom, offering reassurance and guidance for juniors at an uncertain time in college admissions.

Mrs. Foley and Mrs. Peters provided information about what juniors should be doing now to prepare to apply to college next year while the nation may still be in the throes of the pandemic.

“Many parents are wondering, if seniors take a gap year and then apply again in the fall, will the juniors' chances of being admitted be decreased?” said Mrs. Foley. “The answer is yes and no -- there may be fewer spots for juniors but the number of international students may decline, balancing the equation. We are monitoring the college enrollment numbers and will continue to keep our junior families apprised.”

Additional topics discussed included gap years, teacher recommendations, summer activities and more.

By popular demand, Mrs. Foley and Mrs. Peters will offer an additional session in June.
