Students lead Prayer service, podcast & powerful conversation

Mavericks take the initiative to build community through conversation and solidarity.
In the virtual prayer service, students, parents, faculty and staff prayed for George Floyd and his family, for all victims of racism, and for healing and peace in our nation.

Earlier this year, 11th grade students in Barbara Whitlock’s AP Language and Composition class created an entry for the 2020 NPR Student Podcast Challenge on a timely topic: “Breaking Racial Barriers through Courageous Conversations.” In the latest episode of Montrose Podcast, "Let's Talk About Race," they share the conversations that went into their award-winning entry. Listen now. Among other topics, they discussed the concept of the “single story narrative,” as it was presented by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie in her TED Talk “The Danger of a Single Story.”
