Record Fall Athletics Numbers

Exercise has proven benefits for our bodies and our brains, Montrose LifeCompass Institute Associate Director Deborah Farmer Kris explained in a recent blog post
And this fall at Montrose, a record number of students is benefitting from the exercise offered in after school athletics programming.

Nearly one month into the season, 55% of the student body takes part in one of the eight sports and activities on offer. With Mother Nature’s cooperation, Mavericks have taken to the field and court for Cross Country, JV and Varsity Field Hockey, JV and Varsity Soccer, Volleyball, Outdoor Fitness and Middle School Mindful Strength Training. Although athletics look very different this fall, girls are building camaraderie, improving skills  and strengthening their bodies.

“Even though soccer isn’t the same as last year, it’s still really fun. The coaches come out with drills that help us individually and as a team,” said Lucy Farr ‘26.

The love of athletic training and competition at Montrose has inspired alumnae to return as coaches. This fall, Lauren Francis ‘16 has returned to Miracle Field as a Varsity Soccer coach. On the JV Soccer side, recent grads Maggie Gilbert ‘18 and Devyn Gianino ‘20 have taken the helm. Currently, no inter-squad games are scheduled for any sport; Athletic Director Julie Boynton says that creating opportunities for competition is still under study. In the meantime, Mavericks will continue to enjoy the mental, cognitive and community benefits their sports teams provide.
