Girls Aspire Leadership Summit

Thank you to the 110 girls from five schools in four countries who attended the Girls Aspire Leadership Summit in November 2015.

Montrose School hosted its first international leadership summit, GALS, for upper school students and administrators from sister schools around the globe. The unique gathering brought together like-minded girls and women of faith, character and vision to collaborate, learn from one another and make new friends.

Helen Drinan, President of Simmons College and a leading authority on girls’ education and women’s leadership, delivered the GALS keynote address. “In this room, we have a whole group of young women who think they want to be leaders,” said Ms. Drinan. “You are a distinctly important group, because the world needs more women leaders, and the opportunities are extraordinary. This weekend, look at the all the opportunities you have to learn about leadership, and push yourselves to dream big. Don’t put limits on what you think you might be able to do as a leader.”

Montrose upper school students led interactive sessions on leadership in student government, service, athletics, school newspaper, speech and academics, while Montrose teachers and administrators led sessions for administrators from the other schools. The weekend-long conference included arts performances, a uniform fashion show, outings to Boston and a "World Cup" soccer tournament.
