a unique college guidance curriculum

The College Guidance Office works with students and their parents throughout upper school to assist them with every aspect of the college admission process. Our goal is to achieve the best fit for each student as she considers her college options. 

Montrose College Counselors have low caseloads, with an average of 15 students per counselor. As a result, Montrose College Guidance creates a highly individualized process, with regular meetings for both students and parents beginning in the winter of the junior year.

Meet our Counselors 

KENDRA MILLAY, ED.D.

Director of College Guidance

Dr. Millay joined Montrose in 2021 after a twelve-year career in higher education, where she held various advising and admissions-related roles at Northeastern University and Boston University. A lifelong learner, Dr. Millay holds a BA in Human Services, an MS in College Student Development & Counseling, and a Doctor of Education degree in Higher Education Administration–all from Northeastern University. She also holds a graduate certificate in College Counseling from UCLA.

Catherine Buttner, M.Ed.

Mrs. Buttner holds a BS in Molecular Biology from Haverford College, an M.Ed. in Education from Harvard University, and a graduate certificate in College Counseling through UCLA. Mrs. Buttner joined Montrose in 2024 after working in the college counseling department at Gann Academy, as well as through a non-profit organization called ScholarMatch, which serves high-achieving students from underserved communities. Prior to her college counseling work, she had an extensive career in an all-girls school environment, teaching math and science courses at Dana Hall School.
