Unique to Montrose: daily enrichment
The daily Enrichment Period is an integral part of our daily schedule, when girls hone the skill of reflection.
Enrichment is a pause in the morning to restore through reflection and to deepen our awareness of big questions and the larger purpose of our lives. Students have the opportunity each day to choose each day whether to attend daily Mass or to read an enriching book.
mass
At daily Mass, girls sing and pray together to honor God and to explore a deeper relationship with Christ. Students of all faiths, or no particular faith, are welcome to attend Mass, and guidance is given for those who are unfamiliar with it. Occasionally we gather for All School Masses with the whole community for special feast days and seasonal celebrations. Girls can join the Chapel Crew to help with the Mass or serve as lectors or cantors.
reading
At daily Enrichment reading, students can dive into a book that helps them grow in heart, mind or character, and engage in quiet reflection with the aid of an enriching fiction or non-fiction book. Girls can choose from a list of approved books, or propose that a new book be considered.
While Montrose is a school whose mission is guided by Catholic principles, we respect other family faith traditions and honor the freedom of each individual’s unique faith journey.
Faith is an opportunity to explore, an invitation, and never a requirement.
SAMPLE ENRICHMENT READING CHOICES
A complete list of approved enrichment reading books is available in the Student Handbook.
Students wishing to read a book that does not appear on these lists should bring the book to the Assistant Head of School in advance for her review.
