FACULTY FEATURE: INTRODUCING DR. IVANOV
10/8/2026
In a new piece in the Looking Glass, our student newspaper, student reporter Elisabeth S. ‘28 interviewed a new member of the English department, Dr. Anna Ivanov.
Dr. Ivanov recently received her Ph.D. in Slavic Languages and Literature with a minor in Digital Humanities, from Harvard University. She teaches 10th grade British Literature and 11th grade American Literature and is advising the student Creative Writing Club and its publication, The Walrus.
Before coming to Montrose, Dr. Ivanov served as a teaching fellow across a wide range of humanities courses, including in poetry and literature. While at Harvard, she was a Bok Graduate Fellow in Artificial Intelligence and a member of the Steering Committee on a consortium for the study of AI and language. She received a Certificate of Distinction in Teaching from Harvard’s Derek Bok Center.

Elisabeth reports, “[Dr. Ivanov] brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to Montrose, from computer science to poetry, and will be sure to give so much to all of her students during her time here.”
In the wide-ranging interview, Elisabeth asked about the experience of getting a Ph.D. Dr. Ivanov responded, “I can’t think of a better way to spend my 20s. I love learning, I love being around people who love learning, and I love teaching. So I would always recommend it, but it was certainly difficult sometimes.”
Elisabeth inquired into how Dr. Ivanov’s expertise in AI impacted her teaching:
Dr. Ivanov also used her expertise to support students in developing their own thinking skills, without the help of AI. She shared that students in her past would most often use AI when they felt that their own skills were lacking, so instead she chose to give extra support to them when they reached an uncertain stage in their work.
And they discussed Dr. Ivanov’s classes this year:
As the 10th grade British Literature teacher this year, she is most excited to teach Frankenstein and Pride and Prejudice – both of which she has taught to Harvard freshmen – and especially to see how Montrose sophomores will tackle each text compared to her past students.
Welcome to Montrose, Dr. Ivanov!
