Track & field athletes placed in the top 10 in the nation at the Nike Outdoor Nationals in Eugene, Oregon, after the team won the New England championship for the first time in history.
Following a record-breaking season, the Montrose track & field team capped off an extraordinary year by winning the 2025 New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSTA) Championship securing the Division III title — a historic first for the program. Their success continued on the national stage, as six standout athletes qualified to compete at the prestigious Nike Outdoor Nationals in Eugene, Oregon.
Rosie Beard ’25, Eva Derendorf ’25, Elisabeth Halberstadt ’27, Maddy Kerr ’25, Ava Menasha ’26, and Grace Sanyu ’25 represented Montrose among the nation’s top high school competitors.
Highlights from the national competition include:
Sprint Medley Relay All-Americans: Grace Sanyu ’25, Elisabeth Halberstadt ’27, Ava Menasha ’26, and Maddy Kerr ’25 won their heat and placed 8th in the U.S. with a time of 4:14.21, earning All-American honors in the event.
New School Record in the 4x400m Relay: Rosie Beard ’25, Grace Sanyu ’25, Eva Derendorf ’25, and Maddy Kerr ’25 concluded their Montrose careers by setting a new school record of 4:07.17, placing 9th in the U.S. in the Emerging Elite Girls 4x400m Relay.
"This remarkable finish to an already historic season is a testament to the dedication, teamwork, and talent of these student-athletes," said coach Rebecca Sullivan '09.
On the last day of school, Montrose dedicated a new banner in the Arts & Athletics Center in honor of the team's historic achievement.
