Soccer Wins League Championship

Undefeated soccer team wins IGC while volleyball is ICG runner-up and cross country finishes second.
 
The Montrose School varsity soccer team won the 2017 Independent Girls Conference championship, defeating a talented Brimmer and May team, 2-1, at home in Medfield. The Mavericks, who were undefeated in their league this season, captured the hard-fought victory to the cheers of the entire school community.

Montrose School Athletic Director Julie Ruggieri told Montrose student newspaper The Looking Glass, “Spirit and enthusiasm are the two words that come to mind when I think this game. I am so proud of our soccer team for digging deep and truly working together to earn the IGC Championship title.”

Five team members were named IGC All-stars: Ciara Dunn ‘18, Maggie Gilbert ‘18, Kelsey Lopez ‘18, Annie Irwin ‘19 and Devyn Gianino ‘20. Annie was also honored as the IGC League co-MVP.

The varsity cross country team placed second and the JV team first in the NEPSTA Division IV Championship, a year after varsity team won the division in 2016. Ciara Young ‘18, Kasey Corra ‘22 and Tess Farr ‘22 were honored as NEPSTA All-stars.

Montrose’s varsity volleyball team went to the IGC finals in its second year, losing a closely fought match to rival Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall. Isabelle Heron ‘19 was honored as league co-MVP, and she and Aine Ford ’18 were named all-league.

The varsity field hockey team showed important growth, and their season featured another exciting win over Cambridge School of Weston.
