Drama Fest 2011

Students perform, compete and earn acting awards at the High School Drama Festival.
25 Montrose upper school students participated in the Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild's 80th Annual High School Drama Festival on March 5 with a moving performance of Antigone.

Hosted by Joseph Case High School in Swansea, MA, the festival brought together students from across the state. The competition was fierce among the performers, but all in the spirit of supporting and encouraging the performing arts.

In this preliminary round of competition, Montrose competed against nine other high schools, all performing one-act plays of 40 minutes or less. Montrosians had only 5 minutes to put up their set - artfully designed by Emily Iannarilli '11 - before taking the stage to perform. Stage manager Deme Venancio '11 set a spirited tone, cheering her actors on, and drama director, Nancy Gahagan had spent weeks with the girls directing rehearsals leading up to the event.

Montrose School left the competition with significant honors. Awards for outstanding acting were presented to Caroline Cassidy '13, Caitlin Ronan '11 and Arun Sidhu '11 for their excellent performances. The members of the chorus from Antigone also received an award, for their exceptional work as an ensemble. The Montose Players production was professional and moving with talented acting and a beautifully artistic set. Congratulations to all those who gave of their time and talent to produce such a wonderful show.
