Bakhita Thordarson '12 achieves finalist standing in the National Achievement Scholarship Program.
Bakhita Thordarson ’12 placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2010 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Her outstanding scores on the PSAT distinguished her among 1,600 Black American high school seniors throughout the country designated by National Merit Scholarship Corporation officials as a Semifinalist in the 48th annual National Achievement Scholarship Program.

Bakhita had the opportunity to continue in the competition for approximately 800 Achievement Scholarship awards worth more than $2.4 million. To be considered for a National Achievement Scholarship, Bakhita had to fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. She was among the 80 percent of Semifinalists who attained Finalist standing.

Bakhita plans to matriculate at Columbia University in New York City this fall.
