Sixteen Montrose juniors were inducted into the DeTore Chapter of the National Honor Society.
Sixteen Montrose students were inducted into the DeTore Chapter of the National Honor Society on Thursday, September 6. These girls, all juniors, were lauded for their scholarship, leadership, character and service in their first two years of high school.
Ms. Kate Cusack, NHS faculty advisor, welcomed the girls and their parents to the evening ceremony. Ms. Cusack recognized the academic, service and leadership achievements of the sixteen new members. “The combination of these attributes will encourage the development of future leaders who have a strong moral compass and will make a positive difference in the world in which we live,” she noted.
Ms. Cusack described the many service projects which members of the DeTore Chapter of NHS have undertaken over the past year. These have ranged from making cards and gifts for service men and women and the homeless, to donating school supplies and clothes to children around the world, to making fleece memory blankets for parents of stillborn children.
Sohee Min ’13, Kathleen Lockhart ’13 and Bridget Rose ’13, NHS officers, each lit a white candle representing one of the four attributes of NHS members: scholarship, leadership, character and service. These white candles were lit from a yellow candle, which represented the eternal light of knowledge.
Each inductee received a membership pin from the officers, as well as a rose and a hug from one of the senior NHS members. The girls and their parents enjoyed a reception after the ceremony.
Congratulations to the newest members of the DeTore Chapter of the National Honor Society!
