Outstanding Academic Success

Montrose boasts National Merit, National Hispanic and AP Scholar honors.
Head of School Dr. Karen Bohlin has announced that Camille Corre ’13 has been named a Semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program.  In addition, three current seniors have been named National Merit Commended Students: Natalie Hutner ’13, Mary Beth Irwin ’13 (missing from photo) and Hailey McAvoy ’13Hannah Chowdhury ’13, whose family recently relocated to India, was also named a Commended Student.

These Montrose students are among the highest performing students in the country.

Over 1.5 million students entered the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2011 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.  Of these, Camille was one of only 16,000 students whose superlative scores led them to be designated as Semifinalists.  Camille and the other Semifinalists represent less than one percent of those who took the 2011 PSAT/NMSQT.

As a Semifinalist, Camille now has the opportunity to continue in the competition for approximately 8,300 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring.

The four Commended Students, Natalie, Mary Beth, Hailey and Hannah, are among just 34,000 students nationwide receiving this honor, placing them among the top five percent of U.S. high school seniors nationwide.

In addition, two Montrose seniors have been named National Hispanic Scholars.  Maria Buckley ’13 and Natalie Hutner ’13 are among 5,000 Hispanic or Latino students selected from a pool of over 253,000 nationwide who took the 2011 PSAT/NMSQT.  To be considered for this honor, students must have a grade point average of at least 3.5, as well as an excellent scores on the PSAT/NMSQT.

Montrose has also been notified of outstanding academic achievement by six members of the class of 2012.  These six alumnae have been honored for their performance on the Advanced Placement tests they took at Montrose.  Gabby Colvert '12Olivia Ghiz ’12, Ghee Rye Lee ’12, Alex Marian ’12, Kaytie Miklus ’12 and Bahkita Thordarson ’12 were all designated AP Scholars With Honors, scoring 3 or higher on four or more AP exams and averaging at least a 3.25 on all AP exams taken.
