The Montrose Players impress audiences and win awards with The Little Prince.
Competing in the 82nd Annual Massachusetts High School Drama Festival, the Montrose Players impressed audiences with their rendition of literary classic The Little Prince. Led by senior veterans, this year's Upper School cast brought creativity and talent to their unique roles. The result was a masterful production which included fabulous student acting, colorful costumes, and a creative and original set design featuring interactive on-stage drawings, flowing sunsets and twinkling lights.
Montrose performed its production in the preliminary round on March 3 at Sharon High School, competing against seven other area high schools. The full day of competition began at 8 am and ended after 10 pm. It included individual performances of each school's entry and a lively pizza/dance party and concluded with a festive awards ceremony. "It was such a phenomenal day. We had a great time togethe,." said Grace Schiller '13. "I really liked watching the other school performances, seeing what they brought to the stage. There is always something we can learn from one another."
Montrose performers and crew racked up numerous awards at the end of the competition. Judges awarded individual acting prizes to Caroline Cassidy '13 for her role as the Little Prince and Maisy Halloran '13 for her role as the Aviator. Also honored were Sohee Min '13 as the Stage Director and Natalie Hutner '13 as the Sketch Artist.
Outstanding individual performances were contributed by Eilis Quinn '14 as the Rose, Maggie Fitzgerald '14 as the King, Grace Schiller '13 as the Conceited Man, Molly Cahill '16 as the Businessman, Bridget Rose '13 as the Lamplighter, Katie Fair '14 as the Geographer and Camille Corre '13 as the Snake, as well as the ensemble performances of Maddie Crump '15, Taryn DiPalma '13, Erin Joyce '14, Catherine Melley '16, Dina Roche '14, Katie Sidhu '16, Kate Wahle '16 and Molly Wright '14. The dedicated Stage Crew included Katherine Casey '13, Maggie James '14, Kathleen Lockhart '13, Jessie Marshall '13, Tara Sennott '13 and Caroline Strauss '14. Special thanks go to Mrs. Dianne Cassidy for her role desiging the fabulous costumes for the entire cast.
