Ya Got Trouble!

The Montrose Middle School Players deliver spirited performances of The Music Man Jr.
There was “trouble, right here in River City” on November 22 and 23, as the Montrose Middle School Players presented a spirited version of The Music Man Jr. The well-rehearsed cast delighted audiences with lively acting, impressive vocal performances, an ensemble dance number and a finale with a marching band.

The Montrose Middle School Players brought the audiences back to 1912 in River City, Iowa, where fast-talking salesman Harold Hill (Eileen Brennan ’18) comes to town to sell band instruments to the local townspeople. The townspeople gradually fall under Harold’s spell, yet the local music teacher, Marian Paroo (Nora Clancy ’18) suspects he is a fraud.

From the opening scene featuring traveling salesmen (Courtney Aicardi ‘20, Mariana Avila ’18, Nora Cahill ’19, Emma Dunnington ‘19 and Weslee Zinsner ’20)  moving and singing to the motion of a train, to the final, inept band recital that thrills the parents of River City, The Music Man Jr. was a hit. The show featured impressive vocal performances by Marian in “Goodnight My Someone” and Harold Hill in “Ya Got Trouble” and “Seventy-Six Trombones.” Other spirited numbers included “Gary, Indiana,” featuring Marian, Mrs. Paroo (Jaycie Zinsner ’18) and Winthrop (Katie Hogan ’20), the townspeople in “Iowa Stubborn” and “Wells Fargo Wagon,” and “Pick-a-Little,” led by Eulalie Shinn (Alexandra Rider ’18). The dynamic “Shipoopi,” led by Marcellus (Annie Miklus ’18), featured energetic dancing by the entire ensemble. The impressive sets, costumes and band instruments enhanced the performances.

Congratulations to Director Mrs. Holly Sullivan, Assistant Director Ms. Kate Cusack ’99, Stage Manager Nora Sullivan '16 and the entire cast and crew of The Music Man Jr. for an outstanding show.
