Renowned Speaker Jason Evert Speaks

Jason Evert brings his powerful message to Montrose, inspiring students.
“What kind of love are you longing for?” That was the question that best-selling author Jason Evert posed to 8th through 12th grade students this week. In his talk on the topic of Love or Lust, which has been delivered to more than one million teens on five continents, Mr. Evert revealed the compelling vision of God's plan for human sexuality and presented an uplifting case for practicing the virtue of chastity. He offered encouragement for girls to maintain their purity or begin again if they've made mistakes in the past.

Mr. Evert shared the story of an elderly couple who had been married for over fifty years. “The wife had Alzheimer’s disease and loss of her short term memory. She would ask her husband the same question over and over, day after day and each time, her husband would answer as if it were the first time she had asked. He didn’t want her to feel self conscious. “Now that is the type of love worth longing for,” he told the girls.

“Today’s culture is tough, and many girls don’t think they can find a decent guy,” Mr. Evert acknowledged. But he reminded girls not to give in, telling them they have a God-given power to change a man’s head and heart. “When a man meets a woman of virtue and character, he changes for the good. Men will rise to become worthy of a woman like this,” he said.

With his characteristic charm and humor, Mr. Evert told the girls that women are the most beautiful humans on earth. “With that beauty comes power,” he said. “Modesty is attractive. Don’t get a guy to like you for the wrong reasons. Take your beauty and use it to teach boys about your dignity. Boys will take you seriously as a woman and you will send them a message that you are worthy.”

Regarding premarital sex, Mr. Evert exclaimed, “If a guy really loves you, he will do what is best for you. Subjecting you to something that should be saved for your future spouse is not true love!”  Premarital sex, he pointed out, has “nothing to do with love and sacrifice and has everything to do with lust. The priceless gift of your body is worthy - don’t give it away.”

Mr. Evert summarized his message by asking the girls “Why do we practice chastity?” His response: “Because love can’t wait to give and lust can’t wait to get.” The girls were an enthusiastic audience, their applause and smiles giving evidence that they were taking Mr. Evert’s words to heart.

Before departing, Mr. Evert thanked the girls for the opportunity to speak at Montrose. “You have a very special school. As I was praying in your chapel before my talk, I was amazed at the number of students who stopped in to say a prayer and spend time with God. Our Lord is truly loved here at Montrose!”
