Congratulations Class of 2018

Family, friends, alumnae and faculty celebrate the accomplishments of the graduates in a ceremony on Miracle Field.
On Saturday, June 2, the Class of 2018 bid farewell to Montrose School. According to Montrose tradition, Head of School Dr. Karen Bohlin spoke personally about each graduate, relating anecdotes which revealed each girl’s strengths, accomplishments and character.

The graduates, dressed in white and carrying red roses, cheered one another as each classmate rose to receive her diploma.

Student reporter Lily Wei '20 described the event in The Looking Glass:

Salutatorian Gabby Landry ’18 shared a series of memories for the Class of 2018, starting with an anecdote about their ambitious freshman fundraiser plan that turned out to be a failure because the money raised did more to decrease rather than increase their class fund. But they gained a foundational bond that helped them achieve the kind of success that has focused on causes bigger than self. The Co-Valedictorians, Elizabeth Ling '18 and Anneka Ignatius '18, riveted the crowd. Elizabeth gave a humorous and touching reference to her late grandfather’s tongue-in-cheek goodbye phrase “write if you get work” in order to remind the graduates that finding their work is about finding their purpose. Anneka encouraged her classmates to view that purpose as a gear in a pendulum clock — that their work is vital and connected to a higher purpose — and to remember to command your own circle, centered on inner strength, moved by perseverance, and unimpeded by outside voices.

Graduation speaker Dr. Nichole Mercier '94 gave a powerful address in which she cited the Capstone work done by each graduate. Dr. Mercier, Managing Director of the Office of Technology Management at Washington University in St. Louis, reminded them that the focus on character that they received at Montrose will be the "differentiating factor" that will position them for success.

Congratulations and good luck to the Class of 2018!
